David didn't end up going to his appointment today which put a slight monkey wrench in my plans, but I worked it out.  I did it!  I went to Sears today and I bought this baby:
It's a 32" Samsung HDTV.  It has a great picture and was a pretty decent price, $329.  I paid another $20 for the HDI cable (which I might not even need because I think my DVR from FiOS came with one).  I have it stashed at my friend Maureen's place.  She lives very close to us and I asked her on Friday if she could be my co-conspirator.  I could have put it in Sarah's closet, but with David home today, there was no way to get it in there without him seeing.  So it will sit at Maureen's place until I have a day where I work from home and David goes to his office.  I'll nip over and get it and then wrap it and stash it in Sarah's room.  I'll wrap the cable up as a present and give that to David.  When he looks puzzled - trust me Mark, he will NOT know what it is for - then I will say "O yeah, there is something that goes with that!"

Hee hee hee.

I'm slightly to the left of evil.  But my thinking is rather than getting him a bunch of smaller stuff, why not get him this, which he REALLY wants and will make him very happy?  So I did it.

And I'm glad.

For a nice Jewish girl, I bought a hell of a lot of Christmas stuff this weekend.  Nothing says commitment like buying 7 1/2 foot artificial tree and a huge stash of ornaments and lights.  We went out early on Saturday and hit Barnes & Nobles, Pearl Paint, Michael's Crafts, Target and then grocery shopping.  We got home and David went to work on setting up the tree and doing the decorating.  This is something he takes very seriously - General Patton never planned a campaign so thoroughly.  Everything looks really nice though.  The tree is very pretty, multi-colored lights, candy canes and assorted ornaments.  So far the cats have not attacked the tree.  Kimba and Dylan seem content to crouch under the tree looking vaguely jungle-catish, although Dylan seems more inclined to sleep on the tree skirt than anything else.  Charlotte and Thomas don't seem to care about the tree at all.

It was wonderful to watch David's face while we were doing all this.  He was as excited as a child - this I hope will be his first really happy Christmas in a long while.  He's had a lot of sad things that made Christmas a not so happy time for him for a long time but I think this year he is really getting into the spirit.

I had a blast yesterday buying clothes for the family I adopted for Christmas.  It felt really good to be able to give back this year.  I may not be rich but I have a roof over my head, food on the table and a good job.  These are things I do not take for granted.
