I ganked this from [livejournal.com profile] firenightingale :

[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
Well yeah... it would be a short entry if I didn't.

[02] Would you do meth if it was legal?
Not a chance.  I've never inhaled or ingested anything like that and I never would, legal or not.

[03] Abortion: for or against it?
No one is "for" abortion.  What we are for is the right to choose, the right to have a say over what happens to our bodies.  Yes, I am in favor of every woman's right to choose what is best for her without the interference of a government or a religion - or even worse, a government unduly influenced by a rabid religious band of loud mouths.

[04] Do you think the world would fail with a female president?
The world hasn't failed so far and we've had plenty of women as leaders of various countries.  I think it is complete arrogance to say that the world couldn't handle a woman as president of the US.  However, it should be the right woman and so far, she has not appeared.

[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?
This is a poorly worded question.  It isn't something you believe in - it either exists or not and it does exist.  Am I in favor of it -which is what I think the question intends to ask?  No, I'm not.  Like most people, I can get emotional about certain crimes, particularly when children are harmed.  However, I do not believe a civilized society kills its own.

[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
Not really.  I have never and would never use it but I don't really want to see it legal, except for medical purposes.

[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?
Since I've had quite a lot of it, I'd have to say I was for it.  However, that doesn't mean I'm in favor of people just jumping into bed with anyone who happens to catch their eye.

[08] Do you believe in God?
I'm not really sure sometimes.  I look around at the amazing world, solar system, universe and I think "Surely SOMEONE had to have a hand in arranging all this" but then I start wondering again.  I guess I believe in some kind of higher power, but I'm a little vague on the details.

[09] Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Absolutely yes.  Without question.

[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
I'm not happy about the burdens it places on our society in terms of services offered, the strain on schools, hospitals and other municipal institutions.  But as Ms. [livejournal.com profile] firenightingale  so clearly stated, when  you are as worried about the illegal immigrants who are white as you are about the ones who are brown then I'll take the complaints more seriously.

[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
I would not take a child away from his or her mother, but it would sadden me deeply to see someone so young thrust into being a parent.

[12] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
No.

[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off?
I think it is a little late for that now.  It never should have started in the first place and I'd like to see it ended as soon as possible.

[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
No, I don't.  I watched my father die a horrible, drawn out death hooked up to machines, barely existing but not able to die for 4 months.  No one should have to live through that.  I do not understand why people are so understanding about putting an animal down to prevent further suffering, but think it is God's will that humans suffer for as long as science can keep them alive.

[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?
No, I never spanked my children and I would never hit a child.

[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
Stupid question.

[17] Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama?
Absolutely Obama.

[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
If I was afraid of the opinion of others I would never be on LiveJournal.  I'd be hiding somewhere.  I am not the hiding type.

There is a crisis on Wall Street.  Banks are failing, major financial institutions seem suddenly to be ready to go the way of the dodo.  Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson throws together a quick, short proposal that basically says "Give me $700 billion, more if I want it, don't ask any questions about what I'm going to do with it and give it to me NOW!" and Congress huddles to figure out what to do.  Just as they come to a bipartisan agreement, John - I can only handle one thing at a time! - McCain rides his white-haired horse into Washington and says "Whoa there!  I haven't given this my blessing!" and suddenly all is chaos again.  Our President sits quietly for the most part, not saying much of anything, seemingly having already passed the torch to McPalin.

So... am I being cynical if I think that maybe - just maybe - this whole thing was engineered by the White House and the demonic powers that be to make McBush look like a maveric again?  Send Congress a proposal that they KNOW will be rejected - no oversight, bailing out the fat cats with no thought for Mr. and Mrs. Joe Main Street - JUST so that McCain can rush in and look like a white knight battling the stalwarts of his own party once again to bring justice and joy to the common folk?

But then some would say I am a cynic.

Just one little bit tonight because it is late and I am beat.

McCain was a nasty, rude SOB and Obama was far too gracious.  He needs to stop saying "I agree with John" and point up the differences between them more.  And he needs to NOT let McBush get away with crap like saying he loves veterans and will take care of them when it is well known that he has a lousy record when it comes to veterans affairs.

I guess it was a draw.  I'll think on it more and write tomorrow.  Now, to bed.
