Another weekend...
Nov. 14th, 2010 06:49 pmAlmost gone. I did manage to get a fair amount accomplished yesterday though. We did the Costco and Trader Joe's runs for the majority of the stuff we need for Thanksgiving. 2 Kosher turkeys, cranberries galore, lemons, apple cider, 2 folding chairs (we need more seating this year) and other yummy things. I'll do another quick run next weekend for the fresh stuff: asparagus, potatoes, herbs, etc. The menu will be herb roasted turkey with apple cider gravy, mashed potatoes, yams, fresh cranberry sauce, asparagus with lemon glaze, possibly a green salad, pumpkin pie and my famous sour cream apple pie. Also sparkling cider and some biodynamic wine. (Note to self: must buy more wine glasses. We only have 2.)
Thanksgiving is my hands down favorite holiday. It's the only one we celebrated when I was a kid. That's when all the relatives (and we didn't have many) came and friends and lots of food and the guitars were out and we'd sing and make a fire in the fireplace... O it was great.
This year we will be 9 at the table... er, tables. It will be the 4 of us, Aaron's girlfriend Lauren, my best friends Lorraine and her husband Lenny and their daughter Jennifer, who is Sarah's best friend. And we have a guest of honor this year. taldragon's lovely fellow M will be joining us from London for his first American Thanksgiving experience.
The kids are driving down from Vermont on Friday evening - leaving around 4 in the afternoon. I'm not wild about this plan. I am going to do my best to persuade them to leave on Saturday morning, but they are pretty set on this. We shall see.
Sarah's birthday is the 21st - she turns 19! and we'll celebrate by going out to tea with Lorraine and Jenny. I'm going to work from home as much as possible during Thanksgiving week. I want to spend as much time as I can with the kids before they go back.
I CAN'T WAIT!!!!
