Random acts of wonderful
Apr. 21st, 2010 01:22 pmSo we all know that I can bitch with the best of them and that's what this journal is for me sometimes - a place to vent. But when good things happen I want to let that out too. In fact, I should do that more often.
The first (not so) random act of wonderful was brought to my by my wonderful friend
taldragon . I received a lovely package from her containing a really cool box of English breakfast tea all the way from London! Squeal!!! My favorite!! She also sent 2 HUGE bars of Cadbury chocolate. For those poor souls who do not know, Cadbury chocolate in England is FAR superior than the sad version we have here in the U S of A. I have heard rumors that the Canadians are lucky enough to get the good stuff too, but I have not confirmed this as yet. There was also a lovely birthday card. Thank you thank you!! I still have the warm fuzzy feeling. I also received another great birthday card from across the sea from
daisho and
firenightingale for which I give a hearty "thank you". And
halfmoon_mollie thought of me very early with a lovely card that I brought to work with me so it can sit on my desk and remind me that friends can be people you have never met in person. But we will!!!
The second act, which was truly random, happened just a little while ago at the lunch place I go to around the corner. I was on line to get my salad and ended up, as I so often do, chatting with the woman who happened to be ahead of me. I mused over the character of a salad dressing called "Smokey Russian" and we giggled about what that might signify. She went to pay for her salad and I followed a minute or so later. I saw her graciously pick up something that someone else had knocked off a counter so when she ended up behind me in line, I told her to go in front of me. She gave an account number when it came time to pay - she probably works for a law firm or a bank that has an account with this deli place so she can charge her meals when she works through lunch. I joked about how I wished that I had a number to charge to - there were days when I did when I worked at law firms. I got my money out to pay for my salad as she was signing her receipt. Suddenly, she pushed my hand away and told me to put my money away and she told the counterman to add my salad to her tab. I protested but she insisted. I left with a huge smile on my face which I proceeded to spread the entire way back to the office.
And to add another lovely touch to the day, the florist I pass had a huge bouquet of lilacs in a vase on the sidewalk. I managed to inhale several snootfuls before I went back inside to eat my free salad.
