It started when we got there, before we even entered the stadium.  We came from work and David had his briefcase with him.  A guard came up to him and told him "you can't bring that bag in here!"  Which is ridiculous since he has taken that same bag into Shea Stadium (the new one and the old one) and into The Daily Show (which has hella tight security) and other places.  They just open the bag and check through it and send him on his way.  No big deal.

Long discussion ensued with the guard but the end result was he had to go back about 4 blocks to a sports bar where for a fee you can check your bag.  We asked the guard how we were supposed to know that he couldn't bring the bag in and he said "It says so on this sign."  So yeah, but we don't see the sign until we are AT the stadium.  So he says "It's on your tickets".  Yeah, in type so small you can't read it even with a magnifying glass.  I mean seriously, you can NOT read this.

They had no trouble checking my bag when I came into the stadium, but for some reason they won't let you bring in briefcases or backpacks or anything other than a purse.

The guard also said "Well, last year people were stealing seats and stuff so we had to ban bags."  Which is bs and also tells you a lot about Yankee fans.

The stadium is also very ugly - cold, poured concrete everywhere, all the good food is down by the expensive seats. If you sit in the upper 2 decks all you get are cold stale hot dogs.

The new Shea Stadium has a gorgeous food court just for the folks who sit up high.

The seats were really uncomfortable and NO leg room.  The seats at Shea (which are very comfortable) are angled towards the field so no matter where you sit, you get an excellent view without hurting your neck.  Not so at Yankee stadium.  In the middle of the 4th inning I had to get up to stretch my legs - my knees were killing me.  I also needed a bathroom.

We came down the stairs from our section, there is a Men's room there and a Family restroom. I tried to go into the Family restroom and there is a f*ucking guard posted who tells me I can't go in there!!  It's ONLY for families!  I had to go clear down the other end to get to a ladies' room. He wouldn't let me in there because I didn't have a kid with me.  Ridiculous.

David wanted to take a picture from the upper deck behind home plate so he could get the whole stadium in and he got hassled by a guard - "You can't stand there!"

And then the topper was the store.

Unreal.

We decide to go down to see the store - David likes to get a commemorative tee shirt every where we go.  We have to go ALL the way back down to the street level to get to the store.  The store is small, rather badly lit and has a lot of security people.  They must expect a lot of thefts there.  So David picks out a shirt and also wants a patch which he can't find out on the selling floor, but there is a stack of them in the case at the register.  We go to the counter and this woman who works there is flapping her mouth off to 2 of her co-workers about some other co-worker - she's going on and on.

David wants to pay for his shirt and get the patch so he says "Excuse me"

No response.

Again. "Excuse me"

No response - she's still yakking with her friends.

Third time "Excuuuuse me."

Now she turns to him and says "You giving me attitude!!!??"

Unreal.

He just said "I'd like to buy the shirt and a patch please"

She continues to yak to her friends and starts ringing up the shirt without getting the patch because she's not paying attention.

He tries again - THREE TIMES! - to get her to get the patch out of the case.

Ignores him.

Finally I get her attention and say "He'd like to buy a patch please"

She glares at both of us and says "They out on the floor!"

So now David is pissed and says "Yes, but we couldn't find them out there and there is a whole stack of them right here"

She was HORRIBLE.

The whole place was horrible.

Ugly. Cold.

It was also full of all this self-aggrandizing crap about how the Yankees are the BEST TEAM IN PROFESSIONAL SPORTS.

They showed a 20 minute video before the game about HOW FUCKING WONDERFUL THE YANKEES ARE!!!

Jeez. I thought the mark of a champion was being a bit humble.

Arrogant, obnoxious, nasty people.

There were a lot of Boston fans at the game and when I was waiting outside for David to check his bag some idiot Yankee fan was yelling at a guy wearing a Boston cap. "You got some nerve showing your face here!" And all kinds of crap... really embarrassing. Have a little class.

I have always hated the Yankees, but it has been a sort of vague, well I'm a Mets fan kind of hatred. Now, it is honed to fine sheen and very focused.

I HATE the damn Yankees!
