Dylan - R.I.P.
Jun. 26th, 2008 09:20 amI am very sad today. The kids told me yesterday that Dylan, my big beautiful orange maniac of a cat, was acting a little "off" in the afternoon. He hadn't shown any symptoms at all before - he was his usual rambunctious self right up to yesterday afternoon. Because I got home late yesterday and had to enter a cleaning frenzy last night, I didn't check on him. It wasn't unusual for him to go off and sleep by himself for a while, so I didn't think it was all that strange. But this morning when he didn't come around for his customary "hi are you up yet, pet me now!" greeting I got worried. We couldn't find him upstairs or downstairs so David went to check the basement. He found Dylan, all curled up and already gone.
I am heartbroken, guilty and miserable. I had to wake the kids up to tell them before we left for work because I didn't want them to find out when we weren't home. They have Kimba, Charlotte and Thomas to keep them company, but Dylan was a very large presence in the house and he will be missed very much.
Funeral services will be held tonight in the back yard. David keeps reminding me that he had a very happy life with us and that is true. But I still feel horrible.
