On instruction from
zinneaI am expounding on some of my interests.
1. blues: This either refers to some of the music I was raised on - my mom was a jazz and blues fanatic - or my mood, which at times can be a bit on the blue side.
2. Charles de Lint: One of my favorite authors. I love his writing style - he can completely take me out of myself and into a whole other world where magic is not only possible but mandatory and where things are never what they seem.
3.
Freecycle(TM): I run the Nassau County, NY group for this very excellent organization. Our mission is to keep good, usable tangible items out of landfills and into the hands of someone who can use them. It isn't a charity organization, but it is a great way to help your neighbors and save Mother Earth at the same time.
4.
Harry Chapin: Ah, Harry. I miss him still. I knew him from the time I was about 13 when my family belonged to the same folk music society that he and his brothers went to. I was present for the debut of "Cat's Cradle" and many of his other songs. Harry gave the best hugs I've ever had.
5. Litigation Support: This is what I do for a living. I am the supervisor of litigation support for a large, British based law firm. Basically, when company A sues company B or company A is being investigated for potential wrong-doing by the SEC or the DOJ, massive amounts of documents get produced and have to be electronically processed and reviewed. I manage all of this for the attorneys and paralegals. Getting the data processed, paper documents scanned and OCR'd and all of it loaded into databases. It is an insane job at times but I do enjoy it.
6.
Tom Paxton: Another of my favorite folk singers. I went to see him in concert many times during my formative years. I'd love to see him again but I haven't seen a listing for him performing around here in ages. He writes wonderful songs: love songs, children's songs, political songs. Look him up if you haven't heard him before.
7. Vermont: My favorite place in the known universe and my future home. When I cross the border from Massachusetts into Vermont I know I am truly home.
