I could live in a bookstore
Jul. 13th, 2007 09:48 amI have often thought that if money were no object, I would be happy running a little bookstore in a town like Bristol, Vermont. Or maybe Middlebury, VT to get the college trade. I love books - reading them, recommending good ones to people, hearing about an author I've yet to discover. I am almost jealous of people who, for example, haven't get read His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. It is an amazingly inventive and creative trilogy and I loved reading it. I've read it several times - it just gets better and better. I'm really looking forward to the movie of the first book, The Golden Compass which is coming out later this year.
I've also recently become a huge fan of Charles de Lint's writing. His books have that wonderful ability to completely transport me and make me forget where I am. I know a book is really moves me when I am slightly foggy when I lift my eyes from the page, that feeling of "Where am I? What's going on?" I highly recommend his books, especially the Newford series of stories.
Of course, if anyone reading this has any authors they would like to recommend, I would be pleased to hear it.
