Water water everywhere
Sep. 7th, 2005 07:20 amYou have to wonder what W was thinking. There is a huge storm heading for one of our major ports. In that general vicinity are some of the largest refineries we have running in this country. Gas prices are already soaring out of control. The storm is bearing down - all the forecasters and experts agree: this is a big one. Dangerous. Everyone needs to evacuate.
So what does W do? Well, he's on vacation after all. You can't expect him to interrupt his cycling with Lance Armstrong or his side trips to fundraisers for something as petty as weather, can you?
Yes Mr. President. We can.
The mismanagement of this disaster is something that I fervently hope will bring the Republican party to its collective knees in the next national election. I pray that people will at last begin to have their eyes opened to the fact that the people who have a stranglehold on this country don't give a damn about the vast majority of Americans. As long as W's rich friends are doing fine, the country must be doing well. Right? No, not right. Most people live paycheck to paycheck. One small disaster - a sudden hospital visit, a busted muffler - can send their carefully balanced lives into a tailspin.
I can't even imagine what the people in the storm-afflicted areas are going through, but I do sympathize. Sadly, our president seems incapable of feeling anything. I've never seen a more detached person.
