My new hero!

Or should I say heroine?  Whichever - I have someone to cheer for in the Olympics this year. 

I'm all about Dana Torres, the 41 year old who not only qualified for her FIFTH Olympics, she set all kinds of records.  Here is a great piece on her from NPR.  Here is another good article about her.

She is inspiring, of that there is no doubt.  But what impresses me the most is how genuinely nice she appears to be.  There is no ego-stroking, no blustering about her.  She is about as down to earth nice as you can get.

Because of my feelings on the government of China I have been very conflicted about watching the Olympics at all this year.  I am an Olympic nut of the first order - I've been known to watch and discourse on the relative merits of Bulgarian shot putters versus Greek discus throwers, but this year has been hard.  I haven't entered my usual Olympic fever. 

Ms. Torres has given me a great reason to watch and cheer.
