Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last Wednesday I helped [livejournal.com profile] zagella across the street (6 points). In September I pulled over and changed [livejournal.com profile] diver_boy's flat tire (15 points). In July I gave [livejournal.com profile] karlita a life-saving blood transfusion (50 points). In June [livejournal.com profile] mcfluffy and I donated clothes to the needy (11 points). Last month I punched [livejournal.com profile] def_fr0g_42 in the arm (-10 points).

Overall, I've been nice (72 points). For Christmas I deserve a new dolly!

Sincerely,
kukla_red

For a nice Jewish girl, I bought a hell of a lot of Christmas stuff this weekend.  Nothing says commitment like buying 7 1/2 foot artificial tree and a huge stash of ornaments and lights.  We went out early on Saturday and hit Barnes & Nobles, Pearl Paint, Michael's Crafts, Target and then grocery shopping.  We got home and David went to work on setting up the tree and doing the decorating.  This is something he takes very seriously - General Patton never planned a campaign so thoroughly.  Everything looks really nice though.  The tree is very pretty, multi-colored lights, candy canes and assorted ornaments.  So far the cats have not attacked the tree.  Kimba and Dylan seem content to crouch under the tree looking vaguely jungle-catish, although Dylan seems more inclined to sleep on the tree skirt than anything else.  Charlotte and Thomas don't seem to care about the tree at all.

It was wonderful to watch David's face while we were doing all this.  He was as excited as a child - this I hope will be his first really happy Christmas in a long while.  He's had a lot of sad things that made Christmas a not so happy time for him for a long time but I think this year he is really getting into the spirit.

I had a blast yesterday buying clothes for the family I adopted for Christmas.  It felt really good to be able to give back this year.  I may not be rich but I have a roof over my head, food on the table and a good job.  These are things I do not take for granted.

That's how quiet it is around my office today.  And was yesterday too.  When a major Federal holiday falls in the middle of the week it seems to kill the entire 5 days.  They really ought to think about moving Independence Day to a Monday holiday.  I know, sacrilige.  But there is NOTHING getting done around here today and I think this sad situation is being replicated in offices all around NYC and all around the USA.  Someone should do a productivity study - heck, someone probably already has.  I think there would be a lot more getting done if we just had Monday off and then worked the rest of the week.  On the other hand, who am I to argue with the fact that for me, today is Friday.  I'm off tomorrow and Thursday and Friday.  You can hear me smiling, can't you?  For those of you who have been paying attention this means I had a 4 day weekend last week and a 5 day weekend this week.  It's a wonderful thing.  Of course, I won't be taking anymore time off until Labor Day week so don't be too mad at me.
